Saltwater fish aquariums are available in various shapes and sizes. Depending upon the size and number of fishes you want to keep will decide the size of the aquarium. Saltwater fishes are available from an inch or two to up-to 18 inches in length. Moreover saltwater fish aquarium requires more maintenance when compared to freshwater fish aquarium. Provided below are important tips regarding setting up of an aquarium.

  • Place: First of all you will have to decide upon the place where you would like to set your aquarium.

  • Size: If the size of your aquarium is small it could easily be mounted on a table but if its large then you’ll have to purchase special stands which can withstand the weight and must also have a cupboard underneath so you can store equipment, test kits fish food etc. However if you want an extra large aquarium they you will require a cement slab to put it.

  • Glass or Acrylic: Aquariums are either made of glass or acrylic with both having distinct advantages. However, acrylic is lightweight but prone to scratches whereas glass is scratch resistant but heavy.

  • Water Weight: The amount of water to be stored in an aquarium is to be considered as 1gallon= 6 pounds, so if you put 150 gallons it will weigh 900 pounds. Therefore you need a solidly built aquarium to withstand the water pressure and weight.

  • Decorating Aquarium: Aquarium when decorated with plants looks good and the plants also acts as filters. Corals and rocks also provide suitable habitat for fish.

  • Related Accessories: You will also require following accessories and equipments in your aquarium: pump and filter, heater and lights, thermometer, hydrometer, protein skimmer, synthetic sea salt, nets, fish food, rocks and decorations for your aquarium, and saltwater fish.
