When it comes to feeding saltwater fish you need to consider some basics as you should provide them with food which will help them grow and thrive. If you are having variety of fish in your tank then you have to even consider which food is best suited for that particular variety of fish. There are a number of things to remember when you feed you fish. Here are some of them.

  • You have to keep in mind the food preferred by fish as some prefer large amount of meat while others feed on algae. There are also some fish which prefers both types of food.

  • Once you know the nutritional requirements of fish you can select food accordingly. Fish food is generally available as frozen foods, flake foods and pellets and these foods can be further categorized.

  • As you know that feeding habits of fishes are different, you have to try several types of food before you find one that works for your particular pets.

  • Food given to fish must be consumed in five minutes time as the leftover food will decimate and will make you tank dirty and foul smell will start coming from it. Also overfeeding fish can make them sick.

  • Periodical check on fish health is to be observed along with feeding habits and signs of disease. Any change in normal activities of fish will indicate that the fish is either sick or over stressed.
