People actually breed saltwater fish for commercial purposes and to make money to set-up & maintain their saltwater fish tank. They sell their breaded fish to either local stores or other saltwater fish enthusiasts. We will be considering breeding Clownfish as it is the most common fish to own and breed.
- To start breading you require a tank with saltwater, sand, lighting, live rock, and a filter.
- You have to get a pair of clownfish to start with and once they are matured the female will get bigger in size and will be the dominant partner while the male will be smaller in size and will breed.
- Clownfish has a tendency to breed in the evening or dark therefore you have to set a timer on your saltwater tank light.
- Once eggs are laid they will be bright orange in color. Male clownfish will look after the eggs by keeping them oxygenated and as they grow they change and larvae eyes appear. When turned silver, they are ready to hatch.
- You will require a fry tank to move the eggs before they hatch to give the baby clownfish chance to survive.
- Take care of the baby by feeding it with rotifers and greenwater within an interval of few hours as it will lower mortality rate.
- All of the baby clownfish will not survive but those who survive will get their stripes as they mature and will be ready to be shifted back into a regular tank.
